The Shootout was the 23rd episode of Sanford and Son. Also the ninth episode of the series' second season, it premiered November 17, 1972.
Plot[]
Fooling around with his son Lamont's newly (and expensively) purchased antique Revolutionary War era rifle, Fred (Redd Foxx) accidently fires the weapon into the window of his neighbor, Goldstein! (Leo Fuchs) Ensuing circumstances, convince Fred that he has killed his neighbor, and this after the whole neighborhood witnessed him arguing with the man. There is nothing to do but destroy the extremely valuable "evidence."
Note: This is the first episode which Howard T. Platt appears as Officer "Hoppy" Hopkins, replacing Noam Pitlik and his character Officer "Swanny" Swanhouser as the new partner of LAPD Officer "Smitty" Smith (Hal Williams).
