Sangria is a wine punch typical of Spain, Portugal and Argentina. It normally consists of wine, chopped fruit, a sweetener, and a small amount of added brandy. Chopped fruit can include orange, lemon, lime, apple, peach, melon, berries, pineapple, grape, kiwifruit and mango. A sweetener such as honey, sugar, syrup, or orange juice is added. Instead of brandy, other liquids such as Seltzer, Sprite or 7 Up may be added. In the episode of Sanford and Son titled "Pops 'n' Pals" in Season 2, Fred tries and gets hooked on Red Sangria after Julio tells him the meaning of the drink's name is "blood", he at first spits it out, thinking it's actually blood! After Julio explains that its only the meaning of the name, Fred develops a liking to it, saying that it "tastes like "Ripple" gone flat!"
