Mama's Baby, Papa's Maybe was the 52nd episode of Sanford and Son and the 14th episode of the series' third season. It first aired on January 4, 1974.
Fred's feathers get ruffled when an old friend named "Big Money Grip" (Sonny Jim Gaines) from St. Louis comes to town claiming to be Lamont's actual father. Aunt Esther's normally morally-upright image was deflated when it was revealed that in her youth, Grip had sneaked into her bedroom in the Winfield house and had sex with her, mistaking her for Fred's late wife Elizabeth in the dark, which led Grip to claim he was Lamont's real father.
