In the episode "When John Comes Marching Home" in Season 6, Lamont and Janet reconsider the course of their relationship, when Janet's ex-husband Sgt. John Lawson, returns to try to rekindle their relationship. With Janet becoming confused between her feelings for Lamont, who's beginning to have doubts about marriage and supporting a family, and her feelings for John, whom she still cares for, Lamont and Janet break up as they decide to end their engagemant, with Janet giving Lamont back an old engagement ring Frad gave to them as a gift.
