James A. Watson, Jr. (born November 21, 1945) appeared on Sanford and Son as Sgt. John Lawson, the ex-husband of Janet Lawson, who returns to relaim her as his, in the Season 6 episode of Sanford and Son titled "When John Comes Marching Home".

James has made many guest appearances on numerous TV series over the course of his career, which began in the late 1960's. His first guest role was on the western series The Virginian in 1969; by the 1970's James began finding steady acting work in Hollywood, appearing in guest roles on such shows as Sanford and Son, Medical Center, Cannon, Mod Squad, and Emergency!. Steady acting work continued in the 1980's on into the 1990's, with guest spots on The Jeffersons, Quniny, M.E., Dallas, Matlock 227, and The Royal Family, which co-starred Redd Foxx and Della Reese.
More recently, James has made appearances on such shows as The Jamie Foxx Show, The Wayans Bros., The Hughleys, Touched by an Angel, and JAG.
Film work[]
James first film appearance was in the 1970 film Halls of Anger. Some of his other film appearances include the 1974 made for TV movie Killdozer, Lady Cocoa (1975), The Golden Girl (1978), The Killings at Outpost Zeta (1980), and ;;Airplane! II: The Sequel (1982(.
More recently he appeared in the 1996 TV movie If The Frame Fits..., and lent his voice to the 2003 comedy film National Lampoon Presents Dorm Daze.
