Sanford and Son retro Wiki Script

Bowlegs was a nightclub performer and old friend of Fred who appeared on the Sanford and Son episode titled "The Stand-In" in Season 5 of the series. The part of Bowlegs was played by veteran Vegas entertainer, nightclub showman, actor, and singer Scatman Crothers, who, at the same time, co-starred with Jack Albertson and Freddie Prinze in the NBC-TV series Chico And The Man, which was aired immediately after Sanford and Son in the NBC-TV Tuesday night time slot that season.

About Bowlegs[]

After Bowlegs's partner in "The Zanies" song-dance nightclub act, Al (Al Williams) injures his hip tap dancing in the Sanford living room, he asks Fred to help him out; feeling that he owes Bowlegs for introducing him to his late wife Elizabeth, he forces Lamont into "volunteering" to be the dancing Zanie, while he sang with Bowlegs. When it turns out that Fred was mistaken about his meeting Elizabeth, when Bowlegs reminds him that he introduced him to Esther instead, who introduced him to Elizabeth, Fred puts out both of his closed fists as to play a guessing game with a "present" for Bowlegs, "Which one is it in?" when it isn't in either hand, Fred threatens him, "It's in both, you $@%?!"
