Evelyn Lewis or Eve Lewis ,played by actress Marguerite Ray, appeared on the spinoff series Sanford as the new love interest of Fred Sanford, as Lynn Hamilton elected not to revive the role of Donna, Fred's fiancee from Sanford and Son. Instead, Evelyn, a widow, and Fred begin dating much to the dismay of Evelyn's snobbish brother Winston Edwards (Percy Rodrigues). Evelyn's daughter Cissy (played by Suzanne Stone) was more approving of the relationship. Evelyn is credited as appearing in 24 of the 26 episodes over the two seasons of the series, but then her appearances became more infrequentmidway through the second season, as the writers were trying to focus more on the relationship between Fred and Cal, and also, as all of the series cast, with the exception of Marguerite, Clinton Derricks-Carroll, who played Clifford, Esther's son, Redd Foxx, who played Fred, Dennis Burkley, who appeared as Cal Pettie, and LaWanda Page, who appeared as Aunt Esther, were let go in an attempt by the producers to retool the struggling series.
