Bernie Taub was a cousin of Rollo who writes a TV show which was picked up by NBC which closely resemble the Sanfords in the Season 5 Sanford and Son episode titled "Steinberg and Son". The role of Bernie is played by veteran stage/TV and film actor Albert Hall, who is perhaps best known for his role as Mininster Baines in the critically acclaimed Spike Lee directed, and Denzel Washington starred film Malcolm X.
Bernie, an aspiring TV show producer, was also a writer who said that he could'nt break into Hollywood with any of his ideas, so he acted on a tip from Rollo, who's his cousin. Rollo had told him about Fred and Lamont, which, when questioned by the Sanfords when they went to see the producer of the show and the head legal counsel of NBC with their lawyer Albert Brock (Robert Guillaume), he referred to Rollo who described the Sanfords as "Two nothings who really loved each other". Fred, who was sympathetic to Bernie, then asked him, "Why didn't you make the characters Black, and name the show "Sanford and Son?" Bernie responds bewilderedly, "Sanford and Son!?" "It would never make it!"
