A Matter of Silence was the 128th overall episode of Sanford and Son. Also the 17th episode of Season Six, it first aired on NBC-TV on January 28, 1977.
Lamont fears Fred is going deaf, and Fred is content to play along and milk sympathy from Lamont and Donna.
As a result of "waxy buildup," Fred temporarily loses his hearing. After visiting the doctor, a cured Fred suddenly realizes that his ailment had earned him the undivided attention of his girlfriend Donna (Lynn Hamilton). Thus, Fred plays up his "deafness" to the hilt -- at least until his son Lamont turns the tables on him.
